HUNTSVILLE – The Texas A&M University-Commerce women's golf team placed fifth at the Bearkat Invitational on Tuesday after the tournament was reduced to two rounds at Elkins Lake Golf Course.
"I am really proud of Benz and Marie, both finishing in the top 10 individually! We had moments of brilliance as a team, but we are working to find a little more consistency in our lineup to bring our team score in under 300 and truly be competing for titles," said coach
Lise Malherbe.
The Lions'
Benz Far-Arun (Bangkok, Thailand) and
Marie Baertz (Luxembourg) carded top 10 finishes with Far-Arun finishing just two strokes back of the individual crown, which was won by Texas A&M's Bianca Fernandez Garcia-Poggio, who competed individually, with a score of 142 (71-71).
Sam Houston won the team tournament on their home course by 22 strokes.
Far-Arun carded a score of 144, shooting matching scores of 72 in both rounds. Baertz shot a 74 on Tuesday and tied for sixth with a score of 145 (74-71), while

Jordan Dusckas (Flower Mound Marcus) took 47

Malherbe concluded, "after yesterday's long rain delay, we lost momentum as a team. Today, we finished better, but still gave some shots away in the beginning. I am excited to use the next two weeks to work hard to finish off our fall season with three tournaments in a row."
