Allgood and Fetty named to SLC All-Academic Teams

FRISCO – Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball student-athletes Millie Allgood and Reese Fetty have been named to the Southland Conference All-Academic teams on Tuesday morning.

Both Allgood (Sherwood, Ark.) and Fetty (Farmersville) were also named to the Academic All-District team last month, as selected by the College Sports Communicators. Allgood and Fetty were named to second team all-academic and are among 15 honorees from the Southland.

Fetty graduated with her degree in communication studies last month. In her junior season on the court, the outside hitter played in all 32 matches, while appearing in 110 of the team's 117 sets. She finished the season with 224 kills, 25 aces, 41 blocks, and 208 digs. She was top 15 in the Southland in kills.

Allgood completed her sophomore season on the court as a libero/defensive specialist. She totaled 106 sets played, appearing in all 32 matches. She recorded 235 digs and 34 aces, which was top 10 in the Southland, and is majoring in biological sciences.

The duo marks the second straight season that the Lions had two honorees on the SLC Volleyball All-Academic team. Last year, Taryn Cast and Celeste Vela earned all-academic honors.

Southland Conference All-Academic Teams are voted upon by the head coach, sports information director and an academic/compliance staff member from each school. Student-Athletes of the Year are voted upon by an awards committee which consists of one administrator from each member school. Voting for one's own athletes is not permitted.

To be eligible for all-academic distinction, an athlete must hold a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average through the semester prior to the sport's championship, completed at least one full academic year at the nominating school prior to the current season, and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions during the most recently completed season. Student-Athlete of the Year nominees must have held at least a 3.50 GPA and have completed at least two years of athletic competition at the nominating school, including the current season.

First Team All-Conference athletes who meet all-academic nomination criteria are automatically named all-academic.
