NATCHITOCHES, La. – Forty-two unanswered points helped the Texas A&M University-Commerce football pick up its first win of the year, rolling 42-21 over Northwestern State on Saturday afternoon at Turpin Stadium.
The Lions snapped a 10-game losing skid with the win over the Demons on Saturday, also recorded their first win on the road since October 15, 2022, and picked up the first Southland Conference win of the season. The 42 points scored are also the most since the win over McNeese last season.
A&M-Commerce outgained Northwestern State, 439-330, in the first meeting between the two teams since 2022. Both teams have won on the other team's field since the Lions joined the SLC.
The Demons had the ball first on Saturday and were forced to punt. The Lions muffed the punt return giving the ball back to Northwestern State at the five-yard line and Kennieth Lacy ran it in on the first play of the drive for the first points of the day.
On the next drive, the Lions had third and five at their own 25-yard line.
Ron Peace (Malakoff) escaped pressure and found
Jordon Hamilton (Frisco) for an 11-yard gain and three plays later, Peace hit
Christian Jourdain (New Orleans, La.) for a 30-yard touchdown and leveled the score.
