COMMERCE – With just three matches left in the regular season, the Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team sits in sole possession of first place following a 2-0 win over McNeese on Friday night at the Lion Soccer Field.
The Lions picked up their fourth win at home this season and aided by results around the conference, A&M-Commerce's SLC mark of 5-1-1 with 16 points is one better than both Stephen F. Austin and Southeastern. All three teams have played seven SLC matches each.
A&M-Commerce is now 3-0 against McNeese over the last three seasons, while the Cowgirls drop to 0-6-1 in SLC action.
On Friday, the first goal of the match for A&M-Commerce came in the 31
st minute via a header from
Kristen Sueltz (The Colony), scoring on the corner kick by
Mya Mitchell (Dallas – Mesquite Horn), it was the first goal of the season for Sueltz.

The second goal of the night came in the 73
rd minute and it was an own goal by McNeese.
Savannah Powell (Arlington – Martin) drove down towards goal and her cross pass was deflected into the net by a Cowgirl defender.
SECOND GOAL HIGHLIGHT
The Lions outshot the Cowgirls, 22-6, including putting 11 shots on goal. Jackie Kelly recorded 10 saves in the match, while
Veronica Pacione (Birdville) made four saves in her second shutout in her last three starts, and
Kaydence Ramirez (Waxahachie) had team-best six shots.
A&M-Commerce took 10 corners in the match. On the other end, McNeese had just three.
