COMMERCE – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders knocked in a second-half goal to halt the three-match unbeaten streak for the Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team by a score of 2-1 on Friday night at the Lion Soccer Field.
The Islanders have now won back-to-back meetings against the Lions, both in Commerce, and are now 2-0-1 in Southland Conference play and 5-2-4 overall, while the Lions are 3-7-3 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play.
Over the last two years, A&M-Corpus Christi is the only team to defeat the Lions at home.
The Islanders scored first in the match as Storm Harris passed it over to Molly Arens and she sailed it past the Lion goal in the 25
th minute.
Just over three minutes later, the Lions tied the match as a long free kick by
Mindy Shoffit (Wichita Falls – Rider) was headed in softly by
Melissa Storey (Tyne and Wear, England), her first goal of the season.

A&M-Corpus Christi broke the tie in the 78
th minute on a set-piece goal. A corner kick from Morgan Westbury was kicked in by Cilia Leal.
The Islanders had the 19-16 edge in shots and 8-3 advantage in corners, while Zoe Theriot recorded five saves for the Islanders and
Gillian McKenzie (Mesquite Horn) recorded one for the Lions.
For A&M-Commerce,
Kaydence Ramirez (Waxahachie) led the way with five shots, while Westbury had match-high six for the Islanders.
