Lion Soccer signs four on National Signing Day

COMMERCE – East Texas A&M University soccer team has signed four newcomers to the roster for the 2025 season on National Signing Day.

Coach Ashley Gordon, who enters her fourth season at the helm of the program, welcomes Kaylee Humble from Harker Heights, Kelsey Lefever from Princeton, Grace Robertson from Fulshear, and Brooke Shields from Wylie.

The four newcomers join a Lion squad that is coming off a runner-up finish in the Southland Conference Tournament in two of the last three seasons. East Texas A&M is the only soccer program in the SLC to finish in the top three in the standings in each of the last three years.

Gordon said, "I am very excited to sign the 2025 class. This class will add an immediate impact to the roster and I can't wait to get them to East Texas A&M."

WHY EAST TEXAS A&M? I chose East Texas A&M for several reasons that make it a perfect fit for me academically, athletically, and personally. The university's size feels just right, offering a balance that allows me to grow in a supportive yet challenging environment while staying in my home state of Texas.

What ultimately drew me to East Texas A&M was the high standard of excellence within the Lion soccer program. Growing up as the daughter of a 6A Texas High School football coach, I've always been surrounded by a commitment to achieving at the highest levels. This standard aligns closely with the championship mindset the Lion soccer program embodies, and I am eager to contribute to the team's future success. I am looking forward to being an active member of the East Texas A&M community and can't wait to officially join the Lion soccer family on our journey to ELITE!

COACH GORDON'S THOUGHTS: I have watched Kaylee develop over the past 2.5 years and have seen her game grow on both sides of the ball. She is a threat offensively and a relentless defender. Kaylee is extremely versatile and is dangerous as an attacker and defender. She is a threat getting forward in the attack. Her creativity on the ball and ability to play box to box will be a threat to our opponents.

Four-year letter winner and starter at Princeton High School … Totaled eight goals and 13 assists playing primarily as an outside back … Three-team team captain and two-time team captain … First-Team all-district in 2023-24, three-time academic all-district … Played for FC Dallas for eight years and Sting Black ECNL for five years

WHY EAST TEXAS A&M? I chose East Texas A&M because I could tell from the very beginning that the team and school culture was incredible. I knew East Texas A&M would be a place I could accomplish my academic and athletic goals.

COACH GORDON'S THOUGHTS: "Kelsey's impact to play box to box will be extremely crucial. Her consistency and versatility will be a huge impact. Kelsey is a great one-on-one defender that loves to get forward that creates opportunities in the final third of the field.

WHY EAST TEXAS A&M? I chose East Texas A&M because I loved coach Ashley and I like how the team plays, which will genuinely be a great fit for me, and I value their determination. The competitive atmosphere here at East Texas A&M is exactly what I needed. Academically, East Texas A&M has my specific major and due to being a branch of Texas A&M, it has competitive education.

COACH GORDON'S THOUGHTS: Grace is a great addition to this squad. She is an enforcer in the back line with an exceptional heading ability. Her one-on-one defending and ability to shut down players will translate to the college game right away. Her natural leadership qualities and communication will be impactful with in our backline.

WHY EAST TEXAS A&M? I chose East Texas A&M because it is the best fit for me, especially with it being so close to home.

COACH GORDON'S THOUGHTS: Brooke is a great addition to our front line. She is powerful and has a nose for the goal.  She wears down defenders and can get in behind the opponent's backline.  She has the ability to hold the ball through the run of play and bring players into the game.  Brooke is relentless going to goal and a goal scorer.
