NEW BRAUNFELS – The Texas A&M University-Commerce women's golf team is on a path to history as the Lions are in second place after the first round of the Southland Conference Women's Golf Championships at The Bandit Golf Club on Monday.
The Lions shot a team score of 308 in Monday's round to sit in second place. Augusta, the defending conference champion, and an affiliate member of the SLC, has an 18-stroke lead over the Lions atop the leaderboard with a score of 290. A&M-Corpus Christi is third in the seven-team tournament with a score of 313.
Jordan Dusckas (Flower Mound Marcus) and
Julianna Crow (Trinity School of Midland) are both in the top 10. Dusckas shot a 74 and is fifth, while Crow is tied for sixth with a score of 75.
Marie Baertz (Luxembourg) is in a tie for 12
th place with a score of 79.
Benz Far-Arun (Bangkok, Thailand) shot an 80 to tie for 18
th place and
Marie Naeher (Neuenbuerg, Germany) is tied for 21
st place with a score of 81.
Augusta's Kennedy Carroll has a four-stroke lead over teammates Daniela Burgos and Napabhach Boon-In with a score of 69.
The second round of the tournament is slated for Tuesday morning. The Lions are in the final group of pairings with Augusta and A&M-Corpus Christi. Naeher is the first Lions to tee off at 9:30 a.m.
