NEW BRAUNFELS – After the first two rounds of the Southland Conference Championships at The Bandit Golf Club, the Texas A&M University-Commerce women's golf team remains in second place.
The Lions entered Tuesday in second and shot 317 as a team to total a team score of 625. Augusta has a commanding 53-stroke lead for the team championship, while Houston Christian is in third with a score of 629 and A&M-Corpus Christi's team score of 630 is fourth.
If the Lions finish second after Wednesday's final round, it will match the best finish in program history at a conference championship as well as tie the best finish for any sport in conference since A&M-Commerce joined NCAA Division I and the Southland Conference.
Jordan Ducskas (Flower Mound Marcus) shot a 79 on Tuesday and is in seventh with a score of 153 (74-79),
Julianna Crow (Trinity School of Midland) is tied for eighth after shooting a 79 on Tuesday as well and has a total score of 154 (75-79).
Both
Benz Far-Arun (Bangkok, Thailand) and
Marie Baertz (Luxembourg) are tied for 13
th each with matching score of 159. Far-Arun shot a 79 on Tuesday, while Baertz carded a round of 80.
Marie Naeher (Neuenbuerg, Germany) is in 25
th to round out the Lions with a score of 165 (81-84).
Augusta has four of the top five golfers on the player leaderboard. Kennedy Carroll has a firm grip on the individual medal with a nine-stroke lead over teammate Victoria Zheng with a score of 136.
The final round for the Lions tees off at 9:30 a.m. with Naeher being the first to tee off, followed by Baertz, Far-Arun, Crow, and Dusckas in 10-minute increments.
