ARLINGTON – Marie Baertz carded in her first career top five finish as the Texas A&M University-Commerce women's golf finished fifth at the Maverick Classic on Tuesday at Tierra Verde Golf Club.
Baertz (Luxembourg) flirted with the individual medal, being as low as one stroke back of the individual lead, but finished in a tie for fifth place with a score of 213 (70-69-74). Arkansas State's Ashley Kim was the individual winner with a score of 204 (66-70-68).
Along with Baertz,
Julianna Crow (Trinity School of Midland) also finished in the top 20, totaling a score of 221 (72-74-75).
Syrah Javed (Norman, Okla.) tied for 27
th with a score of 226 (74-72-80), while
Jordan Dusckas (Flower Mound Marcus) carded a score of 227 (72-77-78) for 29
th.
Annika Schwinn (Rehlingen, Germany) took 35
th with a score of 235 (77-80-78).
In the team title race, the Lions took fifth with a score of 885 (288-292-305), while Arkansas State was the winner by a stroke over Tarleton with a score of 852.
"We were able to put ourselves in a great position for the final round and we are proud of that," said director of golf
Brian Dolehide. "Unfortunately, we were not able to produce the results this time, but we will have an opportunity like this again soon!"
