Ramirez' brace powers Lions over SFA in a packed Lion Soccer Field

COMMERCE – Despite missing the last five matches, Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team's Kaydence Ramirez made her presence felt on Friday night at a packed Lion Soccer Field, delivering a brace in the Lions' 2-1 win over Stephen F. Austin.
 
The Lions picked up their second win of the season and snapped a nine-match streak without a win. A&M-Commerce is now 1-0-1 in Southland Conference play, handing the Ladyjacks their first SLC loss of the year. SFA falls to 4-2-2 on the season and 1-1 against SLC opponents.
 
Friday night was the annual Hispanic Heritage Month night for the Lions, with over 450 fans in attendance to watch the Lion win.
 
It did not take long for the Lions to score their first goal of the match, as Nia Chacon (Rowlett – Sachse) connected with Ramirez (Waxahachie) on a corner kick, with Ramirez heading in her second goal of the season. KAYDENCE RAMIREZ FIRST GOAL HIGHLIGHT
 
SFA outshot the Lions, 8-5, in the first half, and 19-9, in the match, but A&M-Commerce had a 1-0 lead at the half, though the Ladyjacks took just 2:16 in the second half to tie the match.
 
Jayme Bailey scored off an assist from Ava Shannon, her fourth of the season to tie the match.
 
The match remained tied until the 84th minute when a free kick from Ashley Campuzano (Dallas – Atlas Prep) was headed in by Ramirez, her second goal of the match, and her second brace as Lion. She also tallied team-best three shots. KAYDENCE RAMIREZ SECOND GOAL HIGHLIGHT
 
In goal for the Lions, Gillian McKenzie (Mesquite Horn) recorded three saves, while the only two shots on goal for the Lions ended in the back of the net. Bailey totaled five shots for SFA.
 
Both teams had three corners in the match, while SFA committed 17 fouls, and the Lions committed six.
