Ramirez records second straight brace, A&M-Commerce shuts out Southeastern on Senior Day

COMMERCE – Kaydence Ramirez continued to stay on fire, adding a brace for the second consecutive match as the Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team handed Southeastern a 2-0 shutout on Sunday afternoon at Lion Soccer Field on Senior Day.
 
A&M-Commerce has won two in a row, improving to 3-6-3 overall and 2-0-1 in Southland play. Southeastern is 3-5-1 overall and now 2-1-0 in conference play. With the win on Sunday, A&M-Commerce surpasses SLU to sit atop the Southland standings through three matches with seven points.
 
SENIOR DAY
A&M-Commerce honored its eight starters prior to the match on Sunday: Valerie Flores (Irving - MacArthur), Hailey Griffin (Byron Nelson), Addy Higgins (Ursuline Academy), Camila Montero (Langham Creek), Savannah Powell (Arlington - Martin), Mindy Shoffit (Wichita Falls - Rider), Melissa Storey (Tyne and Wear, England), and Marina Vera (Elko, Nev.) with a special Senior Day Ceremony.
 
It did not take long for Ramirez to find the back of the net, as Storey served up a cross to Ramirez in the box and she cleared it for her fourth goal of the season and third of the weekend in the sixth minute. KAYDENCE RAMIREZ FIRST GOAL HIGHLIGHT
 
In the 26th minute, Nia Chacon (Rowlett – Sachse) found Ramirez for the second time this weekend on a corner, as Ramirez headed in her second brace of the weekend and third of her Lion career. KAYDENCE RAMIREZ SECOND GOAL HIGHLIGHT
 
Ramirez returned to the lineup on Friday, playing her first match since September 1 and scored four goals in the two matches this weekend.  
 
A&M-Commerce had the 7-4 advantage in shots at the half, while none of SLU's shots were on goal, one came off the crossbar. The Lions scored off one of the two corners they had in the first half.
 
In the second half, Southeastern put three shots on goal that were all saved by Gillian McKenzie (Mesquite Horn) for her second shutout in conference play. Ramirez led the way with four shots. Southeastern's Kendall Curan had six saves.
