COMMERCE – The Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team and Texas State met for the first time on the soccer pitch on Sunday afternoon, with the Bobcats coming out on top, 3-1, at the Lion Soccer Field.
The Bobcats tallied the first five shots of the match, but just one landed on target, which was a goal from outside the 18-yard box from Mya Ulloa, with an assist from both Kaylie Smith and Chloe Jones.
After subbing in five players at the same time, the Bobcats wasted no time in adding their second goal, as Alexis Neal's shot was saved by the Lions, than another shot came from Marie Philipzen, which was a team save, and Sydney Bassa cleared in the rebound for the second goal of the match for the Bobcats.
The third goal of the match for the Bobcats came in the 42
nd minute. Halle Garcia kicked it in past the Lions off a throw-in pass from Philipzen. The Bobcats had the 11-8 advantage in shots during the first half.
The Lions recorded the first two shots of the second half, both were on goal by
Nia Chacon (Rowlett – Sachse). The Bobcats saved the first one, but Chacon scored her first goal as a Lion in the 53
rd minute off a free kick from
Ashley Campuzano (Dallas – Atlas Prep).

For the Lions, Chacon and
Kristen Sueltz (The Colony) picked up three shots each in the match. Caitlyn Draper made four saves in goal for the Bobcats, while
Gillian McKenzie (Mesquite Horn) finished with a save and
Marina Vera (Elko, Nev.) recorded a team save.
A&M-Commerce has now been winless for its last six matches, including having lost five to fall to 1-5-1 on the season. Texas State is 3-3-1 on the season.

The Lions hit the road for their final two non-conference matches, playing at Grambling on Thursday at 5 p.m. and 1 p.m. next Sunday at Oklahoma State, who is nationally ranked inside the top 15.
