COMMERCE – A pair of goals in the second half powered the East Texas A&M University soccer team to down the Nicholls Colonels by a score of 2-0 on Thursday night at the Lion Soccer Field for the first Southland Conference win of the season.
Thursday night was the Hispanic Heritage Night at the Lion Soccer Field. A crowd of over 400 in attendance saw the Lions pick up their first SLC win of the season and record a shutout in back-to-back matches for the first time since 2022.
The Lions improve 4-5-3 overall and 1-0-3 in SLC play, ending a streak of six straight matches without a win, while the Colonels fall to 4-7-1 overall and 1-3 in conference play. East Texas A&M now holds a 5-0 advantage in the head-to-head against Nicholls.
In the first half, the Lions outshot the Colonels, 12-1, including two shots on goal and five corner kicks, but no shot ended up in the back of the net.
Mya Mitchell (Dallas – Mesquite Horn) served a kick into the box on a corner kick in the 72
nd minute and it was headed in by
Kristen Sueltz (The Colony) for her second goal of the season.

Malaya Ring (Dana Point, Calif.) converted on a cross pass from
Hannah Bell (Duncanville) for her first career goal, with
Alana Lawless-Felarca (Dallas – Richardson) earning an assist on the goal as well.

Gillian McKenzie (Mesquite Horn), who has now recorded shutouts in two matches in a row.
