ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Ronnie Harrison scored 18 points for the East Texas A&M University men's basketball team on Wednesday night, but the Lions fell 76-54 to the New Mexico Lobos in front of 10,726 fans at The Pit.
Wednesday served as the first game of the season for the Lobos, who are 1-0, while the Lions fall to 1-1. New Mexico held East Texas A&M to shoot just 20 percent from the field in the first half and 0 for 14 from deep.
The Lions scored the first point of the game, but the Lobos scored the next six and did not trail again in the game. UNM had a 34-14 lead at the half.
Harrison (Forney) shot 6 for 12 from the field as well as 3 for 6 from deep for his 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds as well. Off the bench,
Evan Phelps (Midland – Duncanville) had eight points, while
Michael Folarin (London, England) grabbed nine rebounds to lead the team.
Both Jake Hall and Uriah Tenette had 14 points each for the Lobos. The Lobos shot 42.9 percent in the game and outrebounded the Lions, 43-39. The Lions committed 21 turnovers in the game.
