The East Texas A&M University track and field is set to compete in four meets over the next the next three days in California.
The Lions participated in the 44 Farms Team Invitational in College Station last week as
(Tallinn, Estonia) set the school record in the 5,000 meter run, breaking a 21-year old school record and Enoch Fosuehene (Accra, Ghana) just missed the facility record in the 100 meter dash to highlight the weekend.
Only a select amount of Lions are competing in California this weekend with the action beginning on Thursday at the Pacific Coast Invitational and the Bryan Clay Invitational. At the Bryan Clay Invitational, Alex Speer (Robinson), Casey Novelo (Bedford - Trinity), and Jeremiah Garcia (Northwest Eaton) are running the 5,000 meter run. Coming into the meet, Novelo ranks eighth in the Southland Conference with a season-best time of 14:53.70.
Novelo, Nicholas Deutsch (Frisco), and Josh Shanahan (Noosaville, Australia) are competing in the 1,500 meter run on Friday and Randma runs the 1,500 meter run on the women's side. She is currently sixth in the SLC with a time of 4:29.09.
At the Pacific Coast Invitational on Thursday,
Myles Redding (Waco - University),
Philip Krenek (Prague, Czech Republic), and
Armani Modeste (Castries, Saint Lucia) are competing in the 400 meter dash. Modeste ranks eighth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 47.45 seconds and Redding has a season-best time of 47.70 seconds, which is 10th in the SLC. Fosuhene and
Oguz Uyar (Cannakele, Turkey) run the 100 meter dash, with Fosuhene currently ranking fourth in the SLC with a time of 10.31 seconds.
In the 200 meter dash, Fosuhene, Uyar, Modeste, and Krenek are set to compete. Fosuhene is second with a time of 20.59 seconds. Over in the field events,
Cassandra Rendon (San Antonio - Madison) and
Romi Griese (Salzkotten, Germany) are competing in the discus throw. Griese is the conference leader with a mark of 165-1 (50.31m), while Rendon is sixth with a mark of 157-4 (47.96m).
Both
Amaka Ezukanma (Fort Worth - Timber Creek) and
Blessing Samuel (Ghana) are taking part in the long jump and triple jump. Ezukanma ranks sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 39-4.5 (12.00m) and Samuel is ninth with a mark of 38-2.25 (11.64m) and she is also eighth in the long jump with a mark of 18-10.75 (5.76m). Both are also slated to take part in the two events at the Beach Invitational.
The Lions return to Long Beach for the Beach Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Krenek is also slated to run the 400 meter dash, while Rendon and Griese are also set to compete in the discus. Samuel is going to compete in the long jump, while both Samuel and Ezukanma are competing in the triple jump. Redding also runs the 800 meter dash in Long Beach.
In the Mt. Sac Relays, the Lions are slated to take part in the men's 4x100 meter relay, the men's 4x400 meter relay. Individually,
Ibrahim Fuseini (Accra, Ghana) is entered into the men's 100 meter dash and both
Veronika Kramarenko (Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine) and
Magdaline Campo (Montpellier, France) are competing in the women's high jump. The duo is 1-2 in the SLC with Campo leading the conference with a mark of 5-11.5 (1.82m) and Kramarenko is second with a mark of 5-9.75 (1.77m).
