COMMERCE – The East Texas A&M University volleyball team ended its first weekend of the season with a 3-0 loss to North Texas on Saturday afternoon on the Hunt Regional Healthcare Court in the Field House via set scores of 25-13, 25-19, and 25-13 in the final match of the Lion Invitational.
The Lions drop to 0-3 on the season following the three matches, while North Texas went undefeated in Commerce this weekend and is now 3-0 against East Texas A&M in the last four seasons.
In the first set, the Mean Green broke away with an 8-1 run to lead 14-7 and closed out the set 25-13, hitting .400, while the Lions hit 0.074.
Eight of the first 12 points went to the Mean Green in the second set, but the Lions came within one a 4-0 run. UNT used another 5-0 run and closed out the set winning four of the final six points.
The two exchanged the first two points of the third set, but the Mean Green won the next eight and had a lead as big as 13 in the set, closing it out 25-13. In the final set, the Mean Green hit .483, while the Lions hit .129.
East Texas A&M was led in kills by
Gracie Campbell (Klein Oak), who had nine, while
Jade Washington (Waco – Midway) led the way with 10 digs.
Following the completion of the six matches of the Lion Invitational, Washington was named to the all-tournament team, totaling 41 digs in nine sets played. The full Lion Invitational All-Tournament team can be found below.
