FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Despite a tightly contested first set, the East Texas A&M University volleyball team was swept in three sets by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Saturday afternoon at Moby Arena via set scores of 25-22, 25-20, 25-19.
The Lions had a 18-14 lead in the first set and despite the Fighting Irish scoring the next four to tie the set, East Texas A&M went on a 3-0 run to go up 21-18. Notre Dame surrendered just one point the rest of the set to take the set on a kill by Mallory Bohl.
The second set was tied at seven before a 5-2 run from the Fighting Irish, who did not trail again in the set. Notre Dame ended the second on a 3-0 run, clinching the set on a service ace by Maisie Alexander.
The Fighting Irish took an early command of the third set by winning the first five points and leading it 12-2. The Lions then went on a 7-2 run to come within five but Notre Dame did not allow the Lions a scoring run of more than two consecutive points, winning the match on an attacking error.
The Lions fall to 0-8 on the season, while the Fighting Irish won both matches in Colorado this weekend to improve to 3-3.
Individually for the Lions,
Gracie Campbell (Klein Oak) totaled 12 kills,
Haley Mullaney (Victory Christian Academy) had 12 assists,
Katelyn Pritchard (McAllen) posted 11 assists, and
Jade Washington (Waco – Midway) recorded 16 digs.
The Fighting Irish had 13 aces in the match.

The Lions begin the final stretch of non-conference play in Iowa next weekend against the Hawkeyes on Friday and Lindenwood next Saturday.
