COMMERCE – Kristen Sueltz scored off
Talya Chacon's assist at 80:48 as the East Texas A&M University soccer team equalized late in the 1-1 tie against Alabama A&M 1-1 on Thursday night at the Lion Soccer Field.
This match marked the first-ever meeting between the two teams. The equalizer was the first goal of the season for Sueltz (The Colony) and the first career assist for Chacon (Rowlett – Sachse).
Thursday was the final non-conference match of the season for the Lions, who are now 1-4-3 overall in their first eight matches of the year. The Bulldogs are 1-3-2 overall.
The Lions created chances throughout a scoreless first half, but the half ended in a 0-0 tie as both squads managed nine shots in the half. The Bulldogs went ahead in the 56
th minute on Czaske Deane's goal. The Lions kept pressure on around the equalizer, earning four corner kicks from 78:59 to 84:51.
Sueltz scored a goal and finished with career-best six shots, putting two on goal.
Addison Eli (Tyler – Grace Community) recorded six shots and led the Lions with four shots on goal, marking a season high.
Emmy Finlinson (Eagle Mountain, Utah) made four saves over 90 minutes in goal.
The Lions totaled 28 shots in the match, marking a season high for the 2026 season.
