East Texas State's fighting Lion gridders scored their fifth straight victory by turning back the University of Houston Cougars 33-7 in Houston October 18.

The Commerce team scored all of its points in the first half, nineteen in the first quarter and 14 in the second. They turned to a defensive game in the last half, allowing the Cougars to tally once in the third period. ET's Donald King carries the pigskin as Cougars Cook and Cruz close in for tackle. James Batchelor continued to pace the individual scorers in the Lone Star Conference by carrying the ball for an early touchdown. He passed 11 times, had eight completions and one aerial touchdown. Freshman David Hurst paced the Berry- men in scoring by dashing for one six-pointer and taking a pass for another. Don King and Harold Watkins scored the other touchdowns. Bobby Griffin place-kicked two extra points and Tom Ramey one.
