No. 4 Tarleton State Takes Down Lions

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The No. 4 Tarleton State Texans picked hit nine three-point buckets and picked up a wire-to-wire 84-71 win over A&M-Commerce on Saturday at Wisdom Gym.
 
The Lions (13-6, 2-5 LSC) got a team-high 15 points from Daniel Ehambe, tying his career high, and 13 points apiece from LaDon Carnegie and Cameron Blue; however, shot just 38 percent from the field as a team and was just 5-of-15 from three-point range after hitting more than half of its shots from beyond the arc in its previous two games.
 
A&M-Commerce did go 28-for-34 from the foul line, including a 10-for-12 performance from Carnegie.
 
Meanwhile, the Texans (18-0, 7-0 LSC) hit just 11 of their 24 shots from the charity stripe, but got 38 bench points and doubled up the Lions on the offensive glass 16-8 to lead to 19 second-chance points.
 
That helped them picked up their eighth straight win over the Lions and extended its school-record win streak to 18 games behind 16 points from senior Chuck Guy and 14 apiece from Davene Carter and Tashawn Mabry.
 
A&M-Commerce trailed by 15 at the break, and by as much as 26 in the second half after an 8-0 run to open the second period and a 9-2 run midway through the half that was capped by five straight points from Mabry.
 
The Texans came out on fire, building a double-digit lead within the first eight minutes of the game, getting three-point buckets on three of their first five possessions, including a pair from Coleman Furst.
 
Guy pumped in 10 of his 16 points in the opening period, with the Texans building as much as a 17-point lead late in the half before the Lions were able to claw back and get within a dozen points on a three-point play from Blue, who had eight points in the first half.
 
The Lions will now head home for a rematch with Cameron on Wednesday at The Field House.
