Softball’s Bruister Tabs May as Assistant Coach

2094Commerce, Texas – Head Texas A&M University - Commerce softball coach Richie Bruister has announced the addition of Christina May as his assistant coach for the Lions' inaugural campaign.
 
"I can not express how excited I am to add Christina to our staff," Bruister said.  "What impresses me the most about Christina is her constant care for the athletes, her work ethic and desire to be the best."
 
May joins the staff after a highly successful five-year stint as the associate head coach at West Texas A&M.  During her time with WT, May worked with the Lady Buff hitters while providing assistance with day-to-day operations and recruiting.  The 2014 squad claimed the 2014 NCAA National Championship, while May and the rest of the staff earned NFCA Division II Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
 
"She did an outstanding job at West Texas A&M to help lead them to a national championship last season," Bruister added.  "She brings Lone Star Conference and national championship experience to our program as we climb to the top."
 
May played at LSC-member Eastern New Mexico. As a member of the Zia softball team, she earned two all-LSC Awards (2005, 2006). In 2007, she was sidelined with an injury and took a medical redshirt.
 
May finished her career at St. Gregory's (Okla.) in the Sooner Athletic Conference. She was a key player in St. Gregory's sixth-place finish at the 2008 NAIA National Championships. In 2008, she earned Academic all-America honors. In her final season, she helped St. Gregory's to the school's most successful postseason, as they finished runner-up at the 2009 NAIA National Championships.
 
A native of Albuquerque, N.M., May earned her bachelor of science degree from St. Gregory's in 2009 and her master's degree in sports management from West Texas A&M in 2011. The former Christina Helland, she married current Texas A&M-Commerce Co-Offensive Coordinator and Quarterback Coach Jared May in the summer of 2014.
