Lady Buffs hand Lions first LSC loss

CANYON, Texas – The A&M-Commerce soccer team suffered their first conference loss on Sunday, falling 2-1 to West Texas A&M on the road. The Lions now stand at 6-4-2 overall, including a 2-1-2 mark in Lone Star Conference action.

Quotable
- "We gave up two soft goals and missed chance after chance. WT is a tough team to play against, but I feel like we let one slip away today." – Lion head coach Neil Piper

Turning Point
 - 11 minutes into the game, Khadidra Debesette found a ball loose in the box and shot from eight yards out, converting her seventh goal of the season.

Summary
- WT's Rachel Herring added another score 12 minutes later with a long shot over the top of the defense. Karyn Forbes was credited with the assist.
- In what has become typical Lion fashion, A&M-Commerce got on the board with a 54th minute corner kick from LSC leading scorer Vicky Back. Taylor Rhodes was on the other end, and her header gave her the first score of her senior year.

Inside the Box Score
- The Lions lead the league in corner kicks, and Sunday was no different. A&M-Commerce took seven set pieces, while WT only took two.
- The Lions outshot the Lady Buffs 14-10, and each team took six shots on frame.
- All three of Jade Bell's shots were on target, resulting in 60% of McKynzie Zick's saves for the afternoon.
- A&M-Commerce has now won one of the last six meetings.

Upcoming
- The Lions return to action on Thursday, when they host Texas Woman's at 7 p.m. at Lion Soccer Field. The two teams played to a 2-2 tie in Denton on October 1.
