Commerce, Texas – Fresh off its upset win over No. 4 Southeastern Oklahoma, the Lions return home to the John Cain Family Softball Field with Texas A&M-International Tuesday with game times moved up to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Originally, the Lions and Dustdevils were scheduled to start the doubleheader at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., but the two teams decided to move first pitch up two hours to avoid inclement weather in the area.
The Lions enter the doubleheader at 8-3 over after their 2-1 upset win over No. 4 Southeastern Oklahoma Sunday afternoon on the third day of the Southeastern Regional Invitational. A&M-Commerce went 2-3 in the three-day event with the other win coming against Newman, 13-4. The Lions suffered losses No. 16 St. Mary's 13-4, to Southwest Oklahoma State 8-6 and to Washburn 2-1.
Luci Ponce leads the Lions with a .467 hitting percentage, while
Johnna Sturm follows hitting at .423 clip.
December Rivers leads the Lions with 13 RBI and two homers, while Ponce trails with 10 RBI and shares the top spot with two home runs. Rivers and
Aundria Romero are tied with four doubles.
Magen Lynch carries a four-game hitting streak into the game, the longest active streak for the Lions.
As a team, the Lions are hitting .318 in 11 games.
In the circle, Romero sports an 1.75 ERA to lead the Lions. She also leads the team in innings pitched at 36.
Selena Rima has a team-high seven appearances and 26 strikeouts.
The Dustdevils come into Tuesday's matchup at 3-5 on the season. Texas A&M-International is hitting .232 as a team, while opponents have a .284 batting average against Dustdevil pitching.
Krissy Sardelich has a team-high .391 batting average with nine hits in 23 at bats. Mariena Gallardo has driven in nine runs and has two home runs.
Delany Thompson is the best arm for the Dustdevils with a 1.11 ERA with 19 innings in three appearances and a 1-2 record. Sarah Johnson has a 1-1 record and 3.06 ERA in four games.
