GRANBURY – The A&M-Commerce women's golf team had one of their best performances of the season, but it wasn't quite enough to get out of fifth place. The Lions finished just one stroke behind fourth place Rogers State and three strokes behind third place Midwestern State at the Doc Housewright Invitational.
Celeste Emeott had a great day Tuesday with a career-best 70. She had the lowest round of the entire tournament, and finished with an overall score of 150 to tie for 8th.
Ali Leasor wasn't far behind with a second round of 73. She finished tied for 14th overall with a 153.
Katy Goen broke her career best with a second round score of 77, and a total score of 155. She tied for 19th.
Emily Taylor (tied 25th, 156) and
Zoey Daneshfar (tied 42nd, 165) also had a great tournament.
Emeott finished the invite with 7 birdies, and Leasor, Taylor, & Goen each had 4 birdies.
The competition was fierce at the 7,239-yard, par-72 Harbor Lakes Golf Club. St. Edward's won the Doc Housewright Invitational with a 599, Tarleton State was second with a 600, and Midwestern State was third with a 611. Rogers State came in fourth with a 613, and A&M-Commerce finished fifth with a 614. Arkansas-Fort Smith dropped from third to sixth today, and Cameron, Angelo State, St. Mary's, & East Central brought up the rear.
The Lions hope to build on this momentum heading into the LSC Championships, scheduled for Sunday, April 19-Tuesday, April 21 at the Frisco Lakes Golf Course in Frisco, Texas.
