Commerce, Texas – In its inaugural season, the A&M-Commerce softball team has secured a spot in the Lone Star Conference Tournament on Friday, May 1 following Midwestern's loss at Kingsville Friday, but the Lions will host Harding in nonconference tune-up Saturday afternoon at the John Cain Family Softball Field in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
The two teams played 48 hours prior to Saturday's contest Thursday in Searcy with the Lions sweeping the doubleheader in dramatic fashion. Harding (22-28) had a chance to steal game one from the Lions in in the eighth inning, but A&M-Commerce's
Aundria Zunigia-Romero worked out of a bases loaded no out jam to preserve the 4-3 win.
In game two, Zunigia-Romero was the hero again for the Lions. This time, with A&M-Commerce trailing 5-2 with two outs in the top of the fifth, she blasted a 3-2 pitch into the trees in left field for grand slam. With darkness setting in, the game was called in the top of the sixth to give the Lions (27-23) a 6-5 win.
With Midwestern State's loss in game two of its four-game LSC series at Kingsville, the Lions have secured the sixth spot in the LSC Tournament. The Lions ended LSC play at 12-14 for a .462 winning percentage, and after the MSU loss the Mustangs can finish no better than 12-16 in league play for a .428 winning percentage lifting the Lions into the LSC Tournament which begins Friday, May 1 and will be hosted by the No. 1 seeded team.

Richie Bruister will be making his fifth appearance in the LSC Tournament after taking Texas Woman's to the championship in four of his five years at the helm of the Pioneer program.
