Turning PointIn the final set,
Jaslyn Wacker threw down a kill that put the Lions up 8-6 after an attack error by Alli O'Banion. The Lions never trailed the set again and won the match.
HOW IT HAPPENEDSet 1A&M-Commerce jumped out to a 6-1 lead before Southern Arkansas rallied back and held their biggest lead at 9-12. Late in the match both teams traded point for point and the game was tied 23-23. That is when Southern Arkansas committed two attack errors to give the Lions the first set. The first attack error was by Alli O'Banien of the Muleriders. Following that, Gillian committed the second attack error after a block by
Jaslyn Wacker and
Taryn Driver.Â
Set 2Fast forwarding to the end of the set,
Sydney Reyes made a big kill to give the Lions a 22-21 lead and a few plays later,
Jaslyn Wacker added another kill. However, Southern Arkansas fought back and Serena LeDuff tied the game at 23 with an enormous kill. The Lions stayed focused and
Layne Little got a kill to help the Lions gain momentum which set up the kill on the very next play by
Taryn Driver. Lions won the set 25-23.
Set 3Southern Arkansas came out in the third set fighting to avoid a sweep. The kills by 5 LeDuff in this set really lifted the Muleriders. Down 24-21, the Lions go on an impressive run late to tie the game at 24 with two kills from
Veronika Baric. In the end, Southern Arkansas prevailed to win the set 26-24.
Set 4Both teams came out fighting in this set and neither was willing to give in. There were eight lead changes in this set alone. LeDuff had a big kill to take the lead 21-22 and the Muleriders never looked back. Southern Arkansas won 25-22.
Set 5 The Lions pulled out the win 15-10, with Veronica Baric credited with the final kill. Baric had a total of three kills.
