Lions host unbeaten Rambelles in LSC opener

COMMERCE, Texas – The A&M-Commerce soccer team saw a three-game win streak snapped on Saturday when they fell 1-0 to St. Mary's in San Antonio. On Friday, the Lions look to rebound with a victory in the Lone Star Conference Opener against Angelo State.

The Series
- A&M-Commerce claims a 16-9-4 all-time advantage against Angelo State entering play Friday evening, including a 10-4-1 mark at Lion Soccer Field. 
- The Lions and Rambelles met four times in 2014, with the Lions winning three of those contests.These include the LSC Championship Game and an elimination game in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
- Each of the four contests a season ago was separated by just one goal.
- The home team won each of last season's meetings.
- The longest win streak in the series history favors A&M-Commerce, who won eight straight from 1997-2004. Angelo State's longest streak in the series is five wins, spanning from 2012 through last season's first meeting. 
- The winning team has scored more than three goals in this series only twice. The Lions won 4-1 in 2008 and 5-1 in 2011. 
 
About the Lions
- The Lions have gone 4-2-0 through their first six games of the year, with both losses (UC-Colorado Springs, St. Mary's) coming by way of a 1-0 game.
- A&M-Commerce is 3-0-0 this season on their home field, outscoring opponents 16-1 at Lion Soccer Field.
- Vicky Back's nine points in a single game against Oklahoma Baptist are tied for the national lead this year.
- Lion head coach Neil Piper enters play Friday evening with a Lone Star Conference record of 90-58-14.

About the Rambelles
- Angelo State has gone 6-0-1 through their first seven games this year, with the lone tie coming on the road against Adams State in the season opener.
- The Rambelles played 11 games in 2014 before suffering their first loss of the year, a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Eastern New Mexico.
- Angelo State has already delivered three shutouts this season (New Mexico Highlands, Fort Lewis, Colorado Mesa).
- Most recently, the Rambelles defeated the Texas- Permian Basin by a tally of 9-1 to improve to 2-0-0 at ASU Soccer Field. Angelo State took 32 shots in that game.
- Away from home this year, Angelo State has outscored opponents 9-3.
- Rambelle head coach Travis McCorkle is the reigning LSC Coach of the Year after being named Co-Coach of the Year in 2013.
- Angelo State's mark of .929 currently ranks 11th in win percentage for the year in NCAA Division II.
- The Rambelles and Lions combine to claim 76% of their current rosters from the state of Texas.
- Angelo State is ranked 7th in the most recent edition of the NSCAA Polls (9/22), the highest of any LSC team this year. They are also the top-ranked team in the South Central Region.
