COMMERCE, Texas – The Lion soccer team saw their first tie of the season on Sunday afternoon after playing to a 0-0 draw with Midwestern State in Lone Star Conference play. A&M-Commerce now stands at 5-2-1 on the year, including a 1-0-1 mark in league action, while Midwestern claims a record of 3-2-2 and 0-1-1.
Quotable– "I thought it was a lackluster performance. I feared this after the big Friday night win. Quite frankly, we're fortunate to get the tie. I thought we played well for the first 25 minutes of the game, but after that, there was only one team in it and it wasn't us. We had a game plan, and we didn't follow that." – Lion head coach
Neil Piper Turning Point– Each team had their share of chances, but the last real threat came when MSU's Destinee Williamson fired a shot with less than ten minutes remaining in regulation that hit the crossbar.
Summary– Midwestern State put five of their 18 shots on frame, while A&M-Commerce landed ten of their 13 on goal.
– Mustang keeper Courtney Burnette recorded nine saves, while Lion counterpart
Courtnie Northern picked up five. Each was credited with the shutout after 110 minutes in the net.
Inside the Box Score– The Lions have won their conference opener for eight straight seasons, but at no point in that span have they started 2-0 in LSC play.
– A&M-Commerce has gone 1-1-1 in their last three games, scoring and allowing just one goal in that time.
