Commerce, Texas – A&M-Commerce begins a three-game road trip starting with Angelo State Saturday, January 9 at 2 pm.

The Lions received their first win in conference play after beating Texas A&M-Kingsville 85-61 on their home floor and extending their winning streak to three games. In their first glimpse of Lone Star Conference action, the Lions shot 43.4 percent from the field and set a new single-game record shooting 89.5 percent from the free throw line on 17-of-19 shooting. A&M-Commerce averages 69.9 points per game that places them fifth in the conference, and shoots 73.6 percent from the charity stripe that ranks them third in the Lone Star Conference. This season, the Lions have been strong defensively by averaging 29.6 defensive boards per game, ranking the Lions second in the conference, and has 8.92 steals per game, ranking the fourth in the conference. Offensively, the Lions have a balanced attack with four players averaging nine points per game entailing
Amari Jones,
Khala Riley,
Shomari Harris, and
Gabby Scott, as well as two more players bringing in eight points per game consisting of
Princess Davis and
Artaejah Gay.
Amari Jones averages nearly a double double by grabbing 9.8 rebounds per game that does not only lead the team, but the entire Lone Star Conference.

Angelo State is coming off of a loss after struggling against Tarleton State losing 94-65. In the Lone Star Conference opener for the Rambelles, the TexAnns shot a season-high of 57 percent from the floor and an impressive 47.6 percent from behind the arc. Conversely, the Rambelles shot a season-low of 32.8 percent from the field and totaled 65 points in the loss, another season low. Overall this season, Angelo State leads the Lone Star Conference averaging 83.3 points per game and have outscored their opponents by 13.7 points. Angelo State shoots 44.1 percent from the field, 36.3 percent from three-point range, and 75.7 percent from the free throw line; all ranking the Rambelles second in the Lone Star Conference. Three players from Angelo State average double-digit numbers in scoring, consisting of Taylor Dorsey, Jasmine Prophet, and Brea Mitchell. Dorsey averages 17.7 points per game while both Prophet and Mitchell each chip in 10 points each. Prophet and Dorsey share the load in rebounding as they both lead the team with 5.2 rebounds per game, while Dorsey is the lone leader in assists with four dimes per game. Kevin Baker is in his first season as the head coach for Angelo State after serving as the head coach at UT Tyler for three seasons. At UT Tyler, Baker compiled a 72-16 record, and led the Patriots to a NCAA Division III Sweet 16, the first in their schools history. Prior to UT Tyler, Baker was the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at in conference rival West Texas A&M for five seasons.Â

The Lions are 24-42 all-time against the Rambelles and have an overall 6-19 record when playing in San Angelo, Texas. This season, Angelo State is 5-1 at home, while A&M-Commerce are 2-4 on the road. The Lions are on a current two-game winning streak against Angelo State after defeating the Rambelles in both meetings last season, ending a previous four-game losing streak dating back to the 2013-13 season.
