RICHARDSON - Texas A&M University-Commerce golfer Emily Taylor has earned Lone Star Conference Golfer of the Week honors, as announced by the conference office on Thursday.

Taylor - a senior from Howe - led the Lions to their first-ever tournament victory on Monday and Tuesday. She shot career-best rounds of 73 in both the first and second rounds of the Oklahoma Baptist Fall Invitational, earning tournament runner-up honors. The Lions set team school scoring records of 299-291=590 and won a playoff to take the first tournament win since the program began in 1997.

"It's wonderful to see that Emily has been chosen as the LSC Golfer of the Week. She is someone who deserves this honor for reasons far beyond how well she plays the game of golf," said A&M-Commerce head golf coach Tyler Schiffelbein. "I have several wonderful players, but I think everyone would agree Emily is always someone who leads by example in the classroom as well as the golf course. Coach [Buddy] Jones and I couldn't be more thrilled for Emily and this honor. She is such a humble kid that I know she is probably more excited for the team's accomplishments over her own. That's just the type of great teammate she is, showing again why she is deserving of this honor."

Taylor and the Lions will look to carry the momentum of the historic tournament victory into next week's West Texas Lady Buff Invitational at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo. That tournament will take place Monday and Tuesday.
