SAN MARCOS – Three East Texas A&M University women's golfers are in the top 20 at the Southland Conference Championships as the Lions are in sixth place as a team following the first 18 holes on Monday afternoon at the Kissing Tree Golf Club.
Tais Moreno (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) leads the Lions with a score of 74 on Monday, being in a three-way tie for 12
th, but just two strokes back of a tie for third place. HCU's Sara Pihlajamaki holds a one-stroke lead over teammate Alyssa Stewart with a first-round score of 80.
Behind Moreno,
Linnea Olsson (Beddingestrand, Sweden) is tied for 15
th place, shooting a 75 in the first round and
Marie Baertz (Luxembourg) shot a 76 to sit in a tie for 19
th place.
Marie Naeher (Neuenbuerg, Germany) shot an 80 to tie for 29
th place, while
Becky Baberg (Asendorf, Germany) is in 32
nd place with a score of 81.
HCU has built out an eight-stroke lead in the team leaderboard over UTRGV through the first 18 holes. The Lions' team score of 305 puts them in sixth place, but just three back of Lamar and A&M-Corpus Christi, who are tied for fourth, while SFA is in seventh place with a score of 316.
The second round is set to begin at noon on Tuesday. Baberg is the first Lion to tee off at 12:50 p.m. followed by the rest of the Lions in 10-minute intervals. Live scoring can be found
