The Lions have lost back-to-back games for the first time this season after dropping Thursday's game to Angelo State. Kingsville was routed by Tarleton State and both teams should be hungry for a win.
"I don't there's been a game yet where it hasn't been two very hungry teams," said Head Coach
Sam Walker. "Even games that have been decided by double digit points or games that are decided at the buzzer have been hard fought. To be successful, you just can't make mistakes. That speaks volumes of our league and how competitive it is from top to bottom."
Walker feels that this game is key for the Lions' home stretch as the season winds down. Only two home games remain in the Field House for the blue and gold.
"There's not any time in this season or probably in a few seasons past where our program has needed a win more. With it being Senior Night for some guys who have dedicated so much to our University, it's a big game for them. It's a big game for all of us, for where we are in the standings and for how much we've accomplished this year. For us to have dropped a couple of home games, our guys are ready to answer that call and get back on the winning track."
Walker hopes this game is a testament to the five seniors who will be honored between games of the doubleheader. He also hopes the seniors will help lead the Lions to a victory.
"Go to the stat sheet and you can see that our seniors have done so much for us from a scoring and statistical standpoint. They've also done a phenomenal job from a leadership standpoint. I feel like it's our seniors who give us a chance to win every night. They play really well together, they're good teammates, they're talented basketball players and that gives me a lot of optimism. That senior group, when they are on the floor, I feel like we have a chance to win."
