The Lions are coming off of a split in their last week of play. The Lions defeated Western New Mexico in overtime on Thursday and then lost in overtime to Eastern New Mexico on Saturday. Head coach Jaret von Rosenberg was proud of the way his team fought to get the win over WNMU.

"We had multiple opportunities to lose that game and I credit our guys for fighting," he said. "We were down five with 40 seconds to go and we found a way to stay the course and keep working. We put on a press that we haven't done but maybe twice all year and we were able to come away with two stops and two scores to get it into overtime. Once we got into overtime, I felt good about our chances and we were able to take care of business."

While disappointed in the loss, von Rosenberg also liked the way his team fought against an improved Eastern New Mexico team that is tough to play on their home floor.

"We knew it was going to be a battle," von Rosenberg said. "I was proud of how we competed. In the last five games, we haven't had the same grit on the defensive end that we had to start the year but I thought we brought that on Saturday. I give Eastern New Mexico a lot of credit. They hit two really big shots in overtime that most of the games this year, those shots don't go in and we have a chance. But they hit two timely shots there and we just couldn't catch them at the end."

The Lions now prepare for two more road games against tough Lone Star Conference competition. The Lions face Angelo State on Thursday and A&M-Kingsville on Saturday. von Rosenberg is prepared for two battles against teams that play well, especially on their home floor.

"Going into this week, it is going to be tough," he said. "Every road game is tough, especially in this league. We are going to play two very good teams that play really well at home. They are very similar to us. These teams have great home records. We have to be firing on all cylinders and we have to get stops and find enough ways to score. At the end of the day, if we put ourselves in position in that last four minutes to have a chance to win, that is all we can ask for. Our guys will make plays like they have been doing all year."
