The Lions are coming off of an undefeated 3-0 week. They swept Missouri Southern State. The Lions battled through some adversity in two of the three games but were able to pull out all three wins in the series. Head coach Richie Bruister was proud of his team.

"I consider those team wins," he said. "It took everybody from our pitching staff, great defense behind them, timely hitting. I want to make note of some unsung heroes that are doing some great things for us. Precious Thompson coming in and running, she has had some big runs for us and has been productive off the bench for us. Allie Thompson has gotten our pitchers ready. Those kinds of players have been fantastic and have given us the opportunity to go out there and for our starters to be successful."

With the wins, the Lions finish the month of February 13-1, their best opening month of the season in school history. Bruister was excited about how the season has started, from the team's hot start to the team's first ever national ranking.

It has been a great February, historic times," he said. "It has been the best February that we have ever had. From our overall record and some individual awards. Those things are exciting. It is great for our program to be where we are and the effort that has been put in by our administration, our players and our fans. It is nice to reap those benefits."

After an impressive week of hitting .833 with three homers, 10 RBIs and a .909 on base percentage, Mariah Jameyson was named NFCA National Player of the Week. It is the second time in her career she has won the award and Bruister could not have been happier for his catcher.

"I'm proud of her with all she has been through and the hard work she has put in," he said. "For her to have this success, it makes it exciting as a coach. Mariah had been struggling a little bit early but with her struggles, she was still hitting over .400 and had driven in 20 RBIs at that point. She was already having an outstanding season by most people's standards. But by her standards, she wasn't happy. Now she is obviously happy. It couldn't have come to a better person."

The Lions now face a test against No. 18 Cameron. With both teams sporting a national ranking, Bruister looks forward to the challenge his team faces.

"Welcome to the Lone Star," he said with a smile. "That's why we love this conference. That is why I'm proud to be a head coach in this conference. In my opinion, and I'm sure a lot of others share this opinion, this is the best conference in the country. That's what you get week in and week out; you will be playing against top teams. We are definitely prepared for it. We have a great, well-balanced team that can win in many different ways. We will be tough to deal with. We are looking forward to the challenge of going into Lawton and may the best team win."
