LOUISVILLE, Ky.– Texas A&M University-Commerce softball players
Mariah Jameyson and
Kinsie Hebler have both been named top 25 finalists for the 2018 Schutt Sports/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II National Player of the Year. The list of finalists was released Monday by the NFCA. The Lions are one of just four teams with two players selected as finalists.
Jameyson– a senior from Seattle, Wash.– has led all of Division II in several statistical categories throughout the season. Coming into this last weekend, Jameyson was leading the nation in batting average, on-base percentage, runs batted in and total bases. She was also second in slugging percentage and third in both hits and home runs. She was named NFCA/Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week
two weeks in a row earlier in the season, the first player in recent history to achieve that feat. She has also been named Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week four different times, the most of any player in the LSC. Jameyson is currently hitting .531 with a .616 on base percentage and a 1.094 slugging percentage. She has 20 home runs, 68 hits, 75 RBIs and 140 total bases. She was named to the
Preseason Player of the Year watch list earlier in the year.
Hebler– a sophomore from Cypress, Texas– has been a two-time LSC Hitter of the Week and last week was named
Fastpitch News National Player of the Week. Coming into last weekend, she was ranked 13th in the nation in slugging percentage, 18th in RBIs, 18th in walks, 19th in home runs, 20th in total bases and 26th in on-base percentage. Hebler is currently hitting .432 with a .521 on-base percentage and a .848 slugging percentage. She has 14 home runs, 57 hits, 53 RBIs and 112 total bases.
The Top 10 finalists will be announced on May 15 with the 2018 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division II National Player of the Year revealed on June 4.
Jameyson, Hebler and the No. 14 Lions are tied for third place in the LSC standings going into the final weekend of the regular season. The Lions face Texas Woman's in a three-game road series, beginning Friday at 6 p.m. The teams will then play in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. All games are at Pioneer Field in Denton. The Lions will then enter the LSC postseason tournament.
