AUSTIN and SAN MARCOS – The Texas A&M University-Commerce track and field teams had two standout performances in the 512 area code at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and Texas State Invitational on Friday.
The night after winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Texas Relays,
Nicodemus Rotich (Eldoret, Kenya) won the 5,000-meter run at the Texas State Invitational in a time of 14:20.08, which is a provisional qualifying time.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team of
Danielle Nicholson (McKinney – North),
Dejanee Washington (Houston – Eisenhower),
Atiana Alexander (San Antonio – Taft), and
Minna Svaerd (Karlstad, Sweden) qualified for the finals at the Texas Relays with a time of 3:46.29, which is a provisional qualifying time and the fastest time in Division II this season.
Micky Ferdinand (Micoud, St. Lucia) cleared 2.12 meters (6' 11 ½") to place second in the men's high jump B flight, earning a provisional qualifying mark.
The Lions have three entries remaining to compete in the Texas Relays on Saturday.
