COMMERCE – The Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team is on the road this weekend to reunite with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday and Incarnate Word on Saturday.
LIONS WEEKEND SCHEDULE
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE LIONS
Last week, the Lions kicked off the second half of Southland Conference play falling to Lamar and McNeese. In the match against the Cardinals, the Lions were downed 3-1, via set scores of 25-15, 25-14, 20-25, 25-18. Returning home, the Lions were held to a .195 hitting percentage and only one service ace, via set scores of 25-23, 25-22, and 25-23 against the Cowgirls.
These losses now put the Lions 9-16 on the season and 5-6 in Southland Conference play. A&M-Commerce currently sits in seventh place, a match ahead of UIW. The top eight teams in the conference advance to the SLC Tournament.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE LIONS
The Lions return home for two of their last three home matches versus New Orleans on Tuesday, November 1, and welcome Nicholls on Thursday, November 3.
HEBERT MAKES HISTORY
Hebert was last week's Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week award, becoming the first player in program history to earn SLC Player of the Week honors.

LIONS SWEEP PANTHERS FOR FIRST DIVISION I WIN
A&M-Commerce picked up its first win in the Division I era on September 6 at Prairie View A&M in three sets. This win also snapped a six-match losing streak to start the season and it was A&M-Commerce's first win over a Division I opponent in athletic department history.
A LOOK AT THE SLC STANDINGS
A&M-Commerce is currently in seventh place in the SLC standings ahead of UIW, Lamar, and Nicholls. The top eight teams in the conference advance to the SLC Tournament.
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
A&M-Corpus Christi is currently sitting at 7-18 on the season and 7-4 in conference play with losses to McNeese, New Orleans, and two losses to Southeastern. The Islanders swept the Lions in the first half of conference play with set scores of 25-23, 25-20, and 25-16. Both the Islanders and Lions are currently in a two-game losing streak going into Thursday's match.
A&M-Corpus Christi is currently tied for third place in conference standings with Southeastern and New Orleans. As a team, they are ranked No. 11 in the nation with 1,110 team assists and No. 9 in the nation with 1,205 team kills. Carissa Barnes is nationally ranked in four different areas, the two most notable is being ranked No. 9 with 464 total digs, and No. 18 with 5.16 digs per set.
The Cardinals are currently sitting at 5-16 on the season and 4-7 in conference play, with wins over Lamar, HCU, Southeastern, and Nicholls. The Lions sunk UIW 3-1, in their previous match, with set scores of 25-14, 24-26, 25-12, and 25-18.
UIW is currently ranked No. 8 in conference standings ahead of Lamar, sitting at No. 9 and right behind the Lions who are currently sitting in seventh place. Taylor Stoops is currently ranked No. 1 in conference with 0.46 aces per set and ranked No. 2 in conference with 33 service aces.
