COMMERCE – The Texas A&M University-Commerce track and field teams have two meets left before the championship portion of the indoor season. The Lions participate in the Texas Tech Shootout this weekend at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock.

STRONG START
The Lions started the season with two meets in Kansas. After a week off, their next three meets come in Lubbock. At the season opener at Pittsburg State, the Lion men finished second and the Lion women finished fifth. Lion men won three events at the Washburn Open, the Lion women won one.
THREE STRAIGHT IN LUBBOCK
After the Texas Tech Shootout this weekend, the Lions return to Lubbock next weekend for the Jarvis Scott Open on February 18. The following weekend, the Lions head back to Lubbock for the Lone Star Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 25-26.
LION MEN ON THE TRACK
Delan Edwin (Castriens, Saint Lucia) has the second fastest time in the Lone Star Conference in the 60 meter dash, 6.69, it is also second in the country,
Emmanuel Agenor (Spanishtown, Jamaica) is fifth with a time of 6.81, and
J.T. Smith (Klein Oak) is tied for sixth, timing 6.82 at Pittsburg State. All three are NCAA provisional marks.
Cameron Macon (Dallas – Carter) and
Jordan Johnson (Gauteng, South Africa) have two of the eight fastest times in the 60 meter hurdles. Macon's time of 9.76 is second and Guateng's time of 8.42 is eighth.
Edwin and Smith are also in the top 10 in the 200 meter dash. Edwin's time of 21.32 is second and Smith's time of 21.67 is fifth.
Jordan Hollis (Lancaster) has the fastest time in the 400 meter dash, 48.62.
The Lion quartet of
Maxime Woirin (Lyon, France), Edwin, Hollis, and
Connor Stockerl (The Woodlands) hold the fastest time in the 4x400 meter relay, 3:14.97.
LION MEN IN THE FIELD
Reigning national champion,
Ushan Perera (Mahabage, Sri Lanka) is anticipated to begin his 2021-22 season this weekend. He holds the school record in the high jump of 7 feet 5 inches (2.26m).
Dodley Thermitus (Elizabeth, N.J.) has the best mark in the LSC, 23 feet 11 inches (7.29m). Him and teammate
Trayveon Franklin (Montgomery) have also posted NCAA provisional marks in the triple jump. Thermitus has a mark of 50 feet 0.5 inches (15.25m), which is best in the LSC, and Franklin has a mark of 48 feet (14.63m), which is third.
LION WOMEN ON THE TRACK
Ashley Benton (Dallas – Life Waxahachie) and
Sofia Khenfar (Lyon, France) are 6-7 in the LSC with times of 7.73 second and 7.74 seconds, respectively, in the 60 meter dash.
Julia Seigerroth (Jonkoping, Sweden) timed 8.92 in the 60 meter hurdles to place eighth.
The Lion group of
Yenifer Martinez (Irving – Nimitz), Benton,
Evelyn Brown (Paris), and
Hannah Keil (Korschenbroich, Germany) is fourth in the distance medley relay with a time of 13.21.07.
LION WOMEN IN THE FIELD
Maia Maury (Noisy-Le-Grand, France) has cleared 5 feet 4.5 inches (1.64m) in the high jump, which is third best in the Lone Star Conference. She competed in the pentathlon at the Washburn Open, her point total of 3, 407 is fourth.
Minna Svaerd (Karlstad, Sweden) posted an NCAA provisional mark of 12 feet 6.75 inches (3.83m) in the pole vault, which is also second in the LSC.
Iniuto Ukpong (Arlington – Mansfield Summit) is third in the LSC with a mark of 43 feet 4.5 inches (13.22m) in the shot put and is also third in the LSC in the weight throw with a mark of 50 feet 8 inches (15.44m).
