No. 19 Lions host Aggies on Senior Day

COMMERCE – The No. 19 ranked Texas A&M University-Commerce enters the final stretch of the regular season taking on the Cameron Aggies on Friday evening at 4 & 6 p.m. in Commerce.

SENIOR DAY
The Lions will honor their three graduating seniors, Sabrina Anguiano (Riverside, Calif.), Emily Otto (Lamar Consolidated), and Destiny Vasquez (Norwalk, Calif.) between the two games on Friday.
 
FIRST REGIONAL RANKINGS
The NCAA released its first regional rankings of the season on Wednesday afternoon. The Lions were tabbed the No. 6 team in the South Central region as they look to make their fourth straight trip to the NCAA tournament. Four of the six remaining games for the Lions come against teams that are nationally ranked.
 
NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Lions are ranked No. 19 in the NFCA rankings, not moving up or going down despite no games last week due to Easter. The Lions have been ranked in all but one poll this season and have seven wins over teams that are currently nationally ranked.
 
NATIONAL AND CONFERENCE RECOGNITION
For the second time this season, Alyssa LeBlanc (Katy) was selected as the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week on March 21 after 18.2 shutout innings with 32 strikeouts. She was also named the conference's top pitcher on February 22 and selected as the NFCA Pitcher of the Week that day as well. Emily Otto (Lamar Consolidated) has also earned an LSC Pitcher of the Year award this season.
 
Sabrina Anguiano (Riverside, Calif.) was named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week as well as the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week on March 15. She batted .909 with three home runs and seven RBIs in four games against Western New Mexico and UT Permian Basin.

A LOOK AT THE LIONS
The Lions improved to 35-11 on the season with a pair of wins over Henderson State on Wednesday. LeBlanc tossed a seven-inning no hitter in game two against the Reddies. A&M-Commerce is 18-6 in Lone Star Conference play, sitting in fourth place, but the top two teams in the standings are still on the Lions' schedule.
 
A&M-Commerce hit two more home runs on Wednesday to increase its season total to 55, which is 10th in the country. The Lions have swiped 126 bases this season, which is fifth and the 78 doubles are 14th.
 
MacKenzie Dugi (St. Hedwig – East Central) is hitting .362 on the season, while Anguiano is batting .390. LeBlanc has 10 home runs, while Madison Schaefer (Frisco – Independence) has increased her batting average by 16 points in the last five games. She has three home runs and eight RBIs in the last 10 games.
 
Avery Boley (Fort Worth – Nolan Catholic) also homered against the Reddies, she has 26 RBIs on the season. Leo Terry (Emory – Rains) has an on base percentage of .380 with 24 stolen bases.
 
Otto is pitching to an ERA of 2.30 with a record of 17-3 and tossed a complete game in 15 of her 22 starts. She has recorded 140 strikeouts, which is second in the conference. LeBlanc is third in the LSC with 139 strikeouts. She is 12-6 with an ERA of 2.89.
 
WHAT'S AHEAD
The Lions host Oklahoma Christian on Tuesday at noon for the final doubleheader at home during the regular season and take on No. 1 UT Tyler in the season finale on April 30.
 
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
Cameron is 25-17 on the season and 13-11 in the conference. Offensively, the Aggies are hitting .311 and hit 51 home runs. Most of the Aggies' lineup is batting above .320, led by Breley Webb, who is batting .417. Kaiden Boren has hit 12 home runs and drove in 38.
 
Josie Swafford is pitching to an ERA of 3.18 with a record of 6-5 in 22 appearances. She has struck out 99. Breley Webb is 11-5 on the season with an ERA of 3.19 and recorded 85 punch outs.
