Lion Men's Basketball reveals 2022-23 schedule

COMMERCE – The Texas A&M University-Commerce men's basketball team has announced its full schedule for the 2022-23 season on Friday morning, the Lions' first in NCAA Division I and the Southland Conference.

Playing on the road for the majority of non-conference play, the Lions begin the season with an exhibition contest at home against Science and Arts from Oklahoma, on November 2 at 8 p.m.

"We are excited to announce the schedule for our first Division I season," said coach Jaret von Rosenberg. "It will be extremely challenging but should help us become battle tested with so many non-conference games away from The Field House."

The regular season begins in Dallas against SMU on November 7, the Lions close out the first week of the season with a trip to Northern Colorado (November 11) and Air Force (November 14).

The Lions head to Atlanta next to take part in the Capitol Classic hosted by Georgia State on November 18-20. A&M-Commerce faces UNC Asheville on November 18, the hosts, Panthers on November 19, and Eastern Kentucky on November 20.

The lone non-conference home game comes against Arlington Baptist on November 28 at 7 p.m. The Lions are back on the road on December 4 at Denver and close out the trip at Wyoming on December 6.

The Lions head to Abilene to take on Abilene Christian on December 10, the two teams are meeting for the first time since 2013 and the Lions hold an all-time advantage of 48-34.

The week before Christmas, A&M-Commerce makes the trip east to Indiana to take part in the Indiana Classic, hosted by Purdue Fort Wayne on December 19-20. The Lions and the Mastodons meet on December 19 and IUPUI on December 20.

The non-conference portion of the schedule closes out in Austin against Texas, playing the Longhorns for the first time since 1962. The two teams have met three times in the past.

Von Rosenberg added, "getting a chance to compete against some of the best competition in the country is a great opportunity for our team. It's a long season, and it will be a journey that our staff cannot wait to go on with this group of men."

The Lions announced the Southland Conference schedule last month, it begins against Incarnate Word on December 31, followed by a home game against Nicholls (January 5), and a road trip to McNeese (January 7).

The SLC schedule continues at Houston Baptist on January 12, hosting Lamar on January 14, trips to New Orleans (January 19), Southeastern Louisiana (January 21), Lamar (January 26), and a home game against Houston Baptist (January 28) to close out January.

The month of February begins at Nicholls (Feburary 2), a two-game homestand against McNeese (February 4) and Northwestern State (February 9), followed by a game at the Lions' travel partner for the 2022-23 season, Demons on February 11.

The final stretch of the regular season begins on February 16 against New Orleans at home and Southeastern Louisiana on February 18. The Lions head on the road at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, the defending SLC Tournament Champions, on February 23, and at Incarnate Word on February 25. The regular season ends on March 1 at home against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

McNeese serves as the host location for the SLC Men's Basketball Tournament on March 5-8 at the Legacy Center in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

The Lions are not eligible for the NCAA Tournament during the four-year transition period, but they are eligible for the College Basketball Insider Tournament and other postseason invitational tournaments.
