Men's Track and Field

Lion Track & Field competes in Colorado Invitational and UNM Team Open

COMMERCE – The Texas A&M University-Commerce track and field teams compete in two meets this weekend to continue the indoor season.
 
A group of student-athletes head to Boulder, Colorado, for the Colorado Invitational, while the other group heads to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the UNM Team Open on Friday and Saturday. Coverage links for the two meets can be found HERE.
 
The Lions are led by reigning Southland Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week Micky Ferdinand (Micoud, Saint Lucia). Earlier this week, the Lion men were rated No. 16 in the South Central region and the Lion women were rated No. 34 in the initial United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Ratings Index.
 
A&M-Commerce has two more weekends of competition after this week before participating in their first Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama on February 26-27. The Lions hold four marks that are tops in the conference coming into this weekend.
 
Ferdinand's season best mark of 6 feet 11 inches (2.11m) is first in the high jump, the men's 4x400 meter relay team of Eddie Barrientes (Chisholm Trail), Ziphion Reevey (Ocean Township, N.J.), Conner Stockerl (The Woodlands), and Philip Krenek (Kostelní Strimelice, Czech Republic) leads the conference with a time of 3:13.98.
 
Céleste Sela (Mont de Marsan, France) is first with a mark of 19 feet 6.25 inches (5.95m) in the long jump, and the women's 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Leah Pettis (McKinney North), Danielle Nicholson (McKinney North), Naomi Ndukwe (Perserville, France), and Maïa Maury (Noisy-Le-Grand, France) are tops with a time of 3:53.99.
 
Additionally, J.T. Smith (Klein Oak) and Delan Edwin (Castries, Saint Lucia) are second and fourth in the men's 60 meter dash with times of 6.62 and 6.73, respectively. Edwin is also second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.10 seconds.
 
Barrientes and Stockerl are 4-5 in the 400 meter dash, with season-best times of 48.72 and 48.73, respectively. Nicholas Deutsch (Frisco) ranks fourth in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.97. Alex Speer (Robinson) is sixth in the one mile run, timing 4:22.96.
 
Among the Lion women on the track, Sofia Khenfar (Lyon, France) ranks fourth in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.64 seconds, Pettis is second with a time of 24.64 seconds in the 200 meter dash and Khenfar is fourth with a time of 25.09 seconds.
 
In field events, Tyke Owens (Lebanon Trail) is seventh with a mark of 6 feet 5.5 inches (1.97m). Ferdinand stands at third place in the pole vault with a mark of 15 feet 1 inch (4.60m) and sixth in the long jump with a mark of 22 feet 11 inches (6.98m), while Trayveon Franklin (Montgomery) is eighth in the long jump with a mark of 22 feet 8.5 inches (6.92m) and second in the triple jump with a mark of 49 feet 5 inches (15.06m).
 
On the women's side, Jenneil Jacobie (Piat Gros Islet, Saint Lucia) and Maury are tied for fourth in the high jump with identical marks of 5 feet 5 inches (1.65m). Destiny Skidmore (Marshfield, Mo.) is sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 9 feet 11.25 inches (3.03m).
 
Amaka Ezukanma (Timber Creek) is sixth in the long jump and Dejah Fuller (Waxahachie Life) is seventh with marks of 36 feet 9 inches (11.20m) and 36 feet 8.5 inches (11.19m), respectively.
