COMMERCE – The Texas A&M University-Commerce football team has announced a matchup at Old Dominion as part of its 2023 schedule on September 23 in Norfolk, Virginia.
 
The Lions and the Monarchs meet at Kornblau Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium on September 23. This is the first meeting between the two teams. This is the first time the Lions are facing a member of NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) since joining the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and the Southland Conference.
 
In 2022, ODU, who plays in the Sun Belt Conference, went 3-9 but picked up wins over Virginia Tech and Sun Belt runner-up, Coastal Carolina. The Monarchs were bowl eligible in 2021, playing in the Myrtle Beach Bowl against Tulsa.
 
The meeting against the Monarchs is one of four non-conference games for the Lions in 2023. The remainder of the schedule for the Lions' second season in Division I will be released later this spring as well as more information on season tickets for the home contests inside Ernest Hawkins Field at Memorial Stadium.
