FRISCO – Texas A&M University-Commerce men's track and field student-athlete
J.T. Smith has been named the Southland Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row.
Smith (Klein Oak) won the 60 meter dash at the USATF Indoor Championships with a school-record time of 6.55 seconds. That time ranks first in the Southland Conference and the South Central Region this year as well as fifth among all Division I sprinters.
This is the second consecutive week that Smith has received the weekly honor and increased the Lion total to four athlete of the week awards during the indoor season. This week is the final round of weekly awards for the indoor season.
The Lions make history this weekend when they participate in the Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama, on Sunday and Monday for the first time.
