Lion Track & Field earns USTFCCCA All-Academic honors

NEW ORLEANS – Texas A&M University-Commerce track and field teams received academic honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday.

Delan Edwin (Castries, Saint Lucia) was selected as a men's track and field all-academic athlete, while Naomi Ndukwe (Perserville, France) was named to the women's all-academic athletes list. In addition, both the men's team and the women's team were selected to the all-academic teams.

Edwin, who is the school's first College Sports Communicators Academic All-American in the Division I era, earns the honor for the second straight year. He is a business administration major, while this is the first career honor for Ndukwe, who is a health kinesiology & sport studies major.

Both the men's team and the women's team hold a team cumulative GPA above a 3.0, being selected to the all-academic teams.

Despite the Lions being ineligible for the NCAA Championships during the probationary period. Edwin was part of the men's 4x100 meter relay team and Ndukwe was part of the women's 4x400 meter relay team, that both finished in the top 48 in the country, thus making them eligible for the honor. Student-athletes must hold a 3.25 grade point average to be eligible as well.
