COMMERCE – The Texas A&M University-Commerce cross country season is set to begin on Saturday night under the lights at the Memphis Twilight, the first cross country race under the lights for the Lions in the Division I era.

A LOOK AT THE FIELD
Eight Division I programs are beginning their cross country weekend in Memphis. Along with the Lions, on the men's side, the field includes Arkansas State, Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, North Alabama, Ole Miss, and UT Martin. For the women, Mississippi State is also slated to participate in the meet hosted by Christian Brothers University.
ENTERING YEAR THREE
Saturday marks year three for the Lions in their transition to being full members of NCAA Division I and being members of the Southland Conference. The Lion Men finished sixth at the SLC Championships a year ago, while the women finished eighth.
Four of the top five runners on the men's side at the conference championships return this year led by senior
Alex Speer (Robinson), while
Anete Randma (Tallinn, Estonia) and
Emma Phillips (Spring - Klein Oak) were the top two finishers for the Lions on the women's side a year ago and both return this year.
WHAT IS NEXT FOR THE LIONS
A&M-Commerce is idle next week. The Lions return to action on September 13 at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station.
