Lion Track & Field is back in College Station for Charlie Thomas Invitatonal

COMMERCE – The East Texas A&M University track & field teams head back to College Station this weekend to take part in the Charlie Thomas Invitational at the Fasken Indoor Track & Field Facility.

The Lions compete in their second meet this season at Texas Tech next weekend at the Jarvis Scott Classic.  
 
A LOOK AT THE LIONS
East Texas A&M was in action last week at the Stan Scott Memorial in Lubbock and the Robert Platt Invitational in Houston. Following the two meets, the Lion men moved up to No. 88 in the country, No. 11 in the region, and second in the conference in the USTFCCCA Ratings Index, while the Lion women are rated No. 93 nationally, No. 14 in the region, and also second in the conference. 

Ibrahim Fuseini (Accra, Ghana) jumped into the top two in the conference in both the 60 meter dash and 200 meter dash and was named the Southland Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week earlier this week. The Lions have five runners that are top 10 in the conference in the 60 meter dash. Fuseini's season-best time of 6.59 seconds is followed by 6.66 seconds from Enoch Fosuhene (Accra, Ghana) in second. Oguz Uyar (Cannakale, Turkey) is tied for fifth with a time of 6.78 seconds, Kingsley Ayebide (Sapele, Nigeria) is sixth with a time of 6.79 seconds, and Tyke Owens (Lebanon Trail) is 10th with a time of 6.83 seconds.  

In the 200 meter dash, Fosuhene is the conference leader with a time of 20.94 seconds, followed by Fuseini in second with a time of 20.97 seconds, and Uyar is third with a time of 21.02 seconds. Philip Krenek (Prague, Czech Republic) is third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 47.86 seconds. In the 3,000 meter run, Josh Shanahan (Noosaville, Australia) is sixth with a time of 8:26.85. Alex Speer (Robinson) continues to lead the SLC in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 14:58.53, followed by Casey Novelo (Bedford - Trinity) in fifth with a time of 15:07.46, Nicholas Deutsch (Frisco) in sixth with a time of 15:09.41, Jeremiah Garcia (Northwest Eaton) in eighth with a time of 15:2.94, and Shanahan in ninth with a time of 15:39.63. Both Cash Goodman (Blue Ridge) and Evan Ealy (Klein Collins) are tied for 10th in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.35 seconds. The Lions' 4x400 meter relay squad is fourth in the SLC. 

In field events, Seniru Amarasinghe (Colombo, Sri Lanka) is tied for fourth in the high jump with a park of 6-6.75 (2.00m), Jonas Gran (Riehen, Switzerland) is tied for seventh in the pole vault with a mark of 14-1.25 (4.30m), while Justin Vincent (Agde, France) is second in the long jump with a mark of 24-8.5 (7.53m), followed by Jean Duparay (Servian, France) is ninth with a mark of 23-1.25 (7.04m). In the triple jump, Joseph Rolland (Wills Point) is ninth with a mark of 46-11 (14.30m) and Tahje Parrish (Picayunne, Miss.) is 10th with a mark of 46-8.75 (14.24m). 

Last week at the Robert Platt Invitational, Gran completed the heptathlon and ranks fourth in the conference with a point total of 4,952, while Joshua Kommer (Balingen, Germany) is eighth with 4,342 points. 

For the Lion women, Kiara Brown (Dallas - Carter) is second in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.43 seconds, Leah Pettis (McKinney - North) is third with a time of 7.46 seconds, and Savannah Harvey (Shawnee, Kan.) is 10th with a time of 7.63 seconds. In the 200 meter dash, Pettis is second with a time of 24.11 seconds, and Sydnee Wilson (Lewisville) is fourth with a time of 24.47 seconds. Cece Charles (Morne Fendue St.Patrick, Grenada) and Oriana Gee (Cy-Fair) are 8-9 in the 400 meter dash with times of 56.46 and 56.79, respectively. Haleigh Risner (Winnsboro) is second with a time of 19:10.37 in the 5,000 meter dash and the Lions' 4x400 meter relay squad is ranked second in the SLC. 

Over in the field events, Veronika Kramarenko (Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine) is the SLC leader in the high jump with a mark of 5-11.5 (1.82m), Magdaline Campo (Montpellier, France) is third with a mark of 5-8.5 (1.74m). In the long jump, Blessing Samuel (Ghana) is second with a mark of 19-6 (5.94m), while Tina Samson (Benin, Nigeria) is eighth with a mark of 18-5.25 (5.62m). Dejah Fuller (Waxahachie Life) is fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 38-11 (11.86m), followed by Amaka Ezukanma (Fort Worth - Timber Creek) with a mark of 38-7.5 (11.77m) in seventh, and Samson in eighth with a mark of 38-7 (11.76m). Samson set the school record in the pentathlon last week and is the SLC leader with 3,677 points, while Campo is sixth with 3,401 points.
