FRISCO – Following a school-record performance, East Texas A&M University women's track and field student-athlete Romi Griese has earned Southland Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors.
 
Griese (Salzkotten, Germany) threw a mark of 165-0 (50.31m) last week in the discus at the Kirk Baptiste Invitational in Houston, which was third in the meet. Her mark also set a school record and leads the Southland Conference, while also being seventh in the South Central Region, and 41^st in the country.
 
She also threw a new personal-best of 120-5 (36.71m) for fourth in the javelin, which ranks 11^th in the conference.
 
This is the first career weekly honor for Griese and first for the Lions this outdoor season. During the indoor season, East Texas A&M had five weekly honorees.
 
The Lions compete in the Texas Relays in Austin and the Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos this weekend.
