This is the first season that the Lions are eligible to compete in the NCAA postseason championships as a Division I member. Jacobie is the first individual or team to qualify for the national championships in any sport. The only other team to compete in NCAA-sponsored postseason competition this year was the cross country teams running in the South Central Regional championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Jacobie is the lone non-Power Four conference competitor in the 16-person women's high jump field. She is also one of just two student-athletes from the Southland Conference to advance to the indoor national championships this season.
The starting height for Saturday's women's high jump is set at 1.75 meters. Jacobie's season-best mark of 6-1.5 (1.87m) is tied for eighth in the country coming into the national championships. That mark is also a Southland Conference record and a school record. She won the Southland Indoor Conference Championship last month as well.
The top eight finishers at the meet on Saturday will achieve first team All-America status. The only Lion All-American in the indoor women's high jump was Markie Abbott, who earned second team All-America honors in 2017. Chelsea Cheek is the last Lion to earn first team All-America honors in the high jump, doing so at the 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships. East Texas A&M has not had a women's high jump national champion in school history.
