SAN ANTONIO – Jeremiah Garcia finished fifth at the UIW Invitational for the East Texas A&M University men's cross country team on Friday at the Windcrest Golf Club.
Garcia (Northwest Eaton) timed 19:45.2 in the four-mile race to finish fifth individually in a field of teams that included five other Division I teams outside of East Texas A&M.
The Lions took sixth among 13 teams on the men's side with 157 points, while the women did not post a team score.
Josh Shanahan (Noosaville, Australia) timed 20:26 for 16
th, followed by
Yosef Abdulrazeq (Mansfield Legacy) in 27
th with a time of 20:44,
Taylor Warrick (Stockdale) turned in a 52
nd place finish with a time of 21:19.
Noah Fernandez (San Antonio Central Catholic) clocked in at 21:28 for 57
th, while
Andrew Crosby (McKinney – Boyd) recorded a time of 22:16 for 70
th and
Christian James (Rosharon – Manvel) clocked in at 22:28 for 75
th place.
UIW won its home race with a score of 34, while Texas A&M International's Ian Rono won the individual race with a time of 18:45.
For the Lion women,
Haleigh Risner (Winnsboro) timed 19:17.7 for 34
th in the five-kilometer race.
Mareva Heck (Marseille, France) clocked in at 19:35.6 for 43
rd,
Edith Martinez (Sulphur Springs) had a time of 19:45.9 for 48
th, and
Aamarie Ebarb (Weslaco) timed 21:19.6 for 88
th.
Texas had four of the top five runners in the race as the Longhorns won the women's race by a score of 17, followed by UTRGV in second with 87 points. Elizabeth Pickett clocked in at 17:10 to win the individual race.
