TYLER – The East Texas A&M University cross country team began its season on Saturday at the Texas Rose Horse Park, with the Lion women finishing third and the women taking fourth.
The first race of the season for the Lions came against local teams, with East Texas A&M being the only Division I team in the field. UT Dallas won the men's race, scoring 71 points, while the hosts, UT Tyler took first in the women's race, totaling just 17 points in the five-kilometer race.
For the Lion women,
Haleigh Risner (Winnsboro) timed 20:00.35 for ninth, followed by
Mareva Heck (Marseille, France) timing 20:09.10 for 13
th,
Edith Martinez (Sulphur Springs) clocking in at 20:14.40 for 15
th,
Hannah Stuart (Canyon) coming in 21
st with a time of 20:38.85.
To round out the Lion women,
Aamarie Ebarb (Weslaco) timed 20:39.10 for 22
nd and
Riley Roberts (Bullard) recorded a time of 20:44.87 for 25
th.
The top finisher for the Lion men was
Josh Shanahan (Noosaville, Australia), who finished 14
th with a time of 27:24.37.
Jeremiah Garcia (Northwest Eaton) followed with a time of 27:26.68 for 16
th and
Yosef Abdulrazeq (Mansfield Legacy) timed 27:33.99 for 21
st.
Noah Fernandez (San Antonio Central Catholic) clocked in at 28:19.00 for 38
th, followed by
Christian James (Rosharon – Manvel) for 47
th with a time of 29:03.31 and
Andrew Crosby (McKinney – Boyd) in 49
th with a time of 29:08.37.
